Best 4 lead sleds for shooting !

Shooting from a lead sled can insure a better zero, drastically improve accuracy at all ranges, and make the entire process much more enjoyable by substantially reducing recoil.

Below we have examined the top 5 lead sleds offered on the market today to help you in making the right decision as to which one is right for you. For those of you in a hurry, here is a list of those that qualified for my recommendation as well as quick links to Amazon below.

What is a lead sled for shooting ?

A lead sled is a completely adjustable rifle rest designed to provide stability and, in some cases, remove the effects of recoil.

What are the advantages of using a lead sled ?

Accurate zero. A lead sled allows the average, or even good shooter to hold much steadier on the target. With the right scope for the distance you are zeroing, in combination with a lead sled, an average shooter can hold the cross hairs right in the middle of the bullseye with no movement. Notice I said "no" movement.

Not only will a shooter notice smaller groups but this allows a zero that is more repeatable because the point of impact can be better compared to the aim point of the scope.

I have seen shooters go through an entire box, or two, of ammo at the range trying to zero their rifles. In some cases, there were mechanical problems with scope mounts, bad scopes, base mounts, or action bedding, etc. But in most cases, the problem was just simply the shooter couldn't hold steady enough to get a consistent group.

A good lead sled will save this kind of shooter the $100 lost on wasted ammo and give him a much better zero while he works on improving his technique.

Development of loads. Those shooters who reload spend a great deal of time focused on maximizing accuracy. From trimming cases to partial resizing for chamber match, to taking extra pains to ensure powder charges are super consistent and more, the last thing a reloader needs is a test of his ammo that is not indicative of true performance.

Long range shooting. Lead sleds can actually be use in the field for hunting. If you have a set up that is long range or one that can give you time to set up the sled, why not use it to ensure a humane kill shot?

Some hunters / shooters frown on this I can understand why. They believe if a hunter is going to take an animal, he should invest the time and training into developing his capacity to make a perfect shot on the animal.

I understand this belief and agree. On the other hand, if a hunter is going to take an animal anyway, I am all for him taking any advantage he can to insure a humane shot. No animal deserves to die a miserable death. Using a lead sled in the field can prevent that.
